Arthur Henry Bather 1829 - 1892 Picture

Arthur Henry Bather 1829 - 1892

Doreen Woodford

In the Notable Deaf Persons series, this books traces the life of one of Britain’s little known and unsung Deaf pioneers, who rose to a high civilian rank in the British Admiralty never since achieved by any Deaf person in any government department. A. H. Bather was also heavily involved with the Royal Association for Deaf People in its early days when it was known under a variety of titles. He was Honorary Secretary from 1865 right up to his death in 1892, and was credited with the formation of St. Saviour’s Church for Deaf People at Oxford Street in London. No history of Deaf Britain can be complete without acknowledging the input of people like A. H. Bather and Miss Woodford’s book is a most welcome addition to British Deaf literature.
