Hamish Rosie was born in Orkney on the windswept island of South Ronaldsay. At 4 his parents made the heart-wrenching decision to send him to Aberdeen School for the Deaf on the Scottish Mainland. Here he began his determined battle to make his own way in life. He was to gain a scholarship as the first Scot to attend Burwood Park School for the Deaf in Surrey and later to Kingston Art School where he developed his fine talents as a designer and artist. He tells of his courtship and marriage to his wife Morag, also deaf and how they formed, with a friend, the Breakthrough Trust. But above all, this is a frank sometimes sad but often joyous well-crafted story, beautifully presented and profusely illustrated with Hamish's bright, colourful and evocative paintings.
