The experiences of parents and teachers, researchers and Deaf consumers, in the field of bilingual education of deaf children are presented. Widely drawing on the work done in Sweden, Denmark, and the USA, where deaf children have been observed growing up in environments where early language can be acquired naturally. It looks at such topics as support for parents, training for teachers, and first/second language acquisition theory and practice. The bilingual approach has for its three goals; academic achievement, full participation in society, and fluency in both the language of the majority and the language of the Deaf Community (as well as the language of the home if this is different).
