Forest Books: Young Deaf Or Hard Of Hearing Child (The)

This work shows that, with advances in technology and an emphasis on infant screening, deaf and hard of hearing children are being identified at an early age - expanding the need for knowledge about early intervention and education for these young children and their families.

It aims to help early interventionists, education professionals, speech-language pathologists, and students navigate complex issues. Readers will: learn to consider the family, community, and cultural and linguistic contexts of young deaf children; explore key language and communication issues, including parent-child interactions, early literacy development, and the impact of technology.

It will also look at specific educational factors, such as inclusive practices and the challenges of identifying and educating deaf children with multiple disabilities; examine major family-centred issues, such as family rights, support, and advocacy; learn about available services for screening, assessment, intervention, educational programming, and programme evaluation; and gain insight from research models that focus on early intervention, team approaches to early education, and early signs of literacy.
